The most common form of dental surgery is the removal of a tooth itself. Although our aim is to prolong the lifetime of your permanent teeth there are a number of reasons why tooth extraction may be a required procedure for certain patients. A very common reason involves a tooth that is too badly damaged, from trauma or decay, to be repaired and may pose a significant risk to your health.
Our 3rd adult molars commonly known as wisdom teeth are situated at the back of our mouth and are readily extracted for the following reasons:
- Difficulties in keeping the area clean hence leading to gum swelling and cavities
- Impacted or erupting at the wrong angle causing pressure against other teeth and structures
- Associated cysts or abscesses
At Stirling Smiles Dental we utilise modern dental techniques and anaesthetics to make dental extractions a relatively painless experience with often minimal recovery time post extraction. For nervous patients we can also offer intravenous IV sedation.
