Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (endodontic) treatment is a procedure to relieve dental pain and help save your teeth. Treatment is usually indicated when there is infection or inflammation in the pulp and nerve of the tooth.

Pulp damage can be caused by the following:

  • Dental decay allowing bacteria to reach the pulp causing it to become inflamed or infected and allowing bacteria to spread to the root that may cause pain and swelling (dental abscess)
  • Hairline cracks or fractures leading into roots of the tooth
  • trauma from injuring the tooth
  • Excessive wear of teeth or leakage around old loose or old fillings
  •

Root canal treatment preserves the natural tooth by removing the infected nerves and debris, cleaning and shaping the root canals and then filling and sealing the affected canals with special dental materials.

Afterwards, the remainder of the tooth is filled for protection or crowned. Once restored, the tooth can then continue to function normally
